CAS project (19-12-2016) 29-12-1016

CAS project in the retirement home in Wachenheim. 

About a week ago we went back to the retirement home in Wachenheim. We decided to go back once more because we enjoyed the time in the retirement home and we wanted to add something to our CAS project. The people in the retirement home were happy to hear form us and we were welcome to come again. We decided to go around Christmas time. School was still going on but we asked for permission to do our CAS project.

The time we agreed on to go to the retirement home was 9:30. We emailed and phoned with the retirement home before we went back. 

This time we baked Christmas cookies with the elderly. The elderly can decide on their own if they want to come or not. Luckily many of the elderly showed up. The recipes for the cookies were not hard so many of the elderly would be able to participate in this activity. We made three types of cookies: glazed hearts, star cookies with chocolate and pine trees with sugar on top.

We started of with making the dough and letting it rest in the fridge for about 30 minutes.

After we let it rest in the fridge, we rolled out the dough to make figures out of it with the molds.

 

After that was done, they went into the oven to bake. In the mean time we spoke to the elderly and listened to their stories. Not all of the elderly are able to function good any more and that is sometimes hard to see. I had a lot of fun with an older woman whom I baked cookies together with. She told me all about the German traditions and about what kind of cookies she baked when she was younger. I learned from her that baking cookies before Christmas is an old tradition and that everyone used to do it. You would learn to bake from your mother or grand mother.

When the cookies were done baking, we decorated them.

After everything was done we helped cleaning everything up. By the time we were done cleaning and putting away the cookies it was lunch time for the elderly. We helped walking them to the room where they had lunch.

I had a nice time with the elderly this day and it was fun baking cookies with them. I had definitely a nice experience.

we left the retirement home about 14:00. 

7-10-2016 Money Bake sale

The money we got for the bake sale was a 150 euros. We were very happy with the money and it was way more than we expected. the money will be donated to our project, the Thailand project. 

29-09-2016 Bake sale sportsday (28-09-2016)

Yesterday we had the bake sale on sports day with our Dutch group. We wanted to have a bake sake for some longer time but figured that a day like sports day was the best opportunity. We sold quite a lot and the money that we earned must first be divided, because there were some other projects who participated as well. We really had to work together as a group and communicate well to make sure everything was going well. I also practised my German skills. Since German is my third language, and I don't practice German classes any more, it can be challenging to speak in German. Some of the parents and children spoke German to me and I tried my best to speak back in German. 

   

27-09-2016 Cake for bakesale

Today I baked a cake for the bake sale we will have tomorrow on sports day. We want to raise some money for our Thailand Project that we run the Dutch group. All of us are making something we can sell, so we can raise enough money. I made an orange- almond cake.
Baking a cake is not always easy, and so today I needed a lot of patience. Baking learns you how to stay calm and patience. This was a recipe that I have never made before and so learned how to bake a new recipe. Even though it is sometimes hard to bake a cake, I still enjoy it.

I went to France this summer holiday and one of the things I did was visiting a castle. The castle was located in the mountains in the south of France. When we visited the castle, there was an art exhibition that lasted for about a week. The artist was Pascal Burq, and his art were paintings. His art was a mixture of abstract and modern art.

Yesterday I helped out the vet by which I also go sometimes to the animal shelter with. I helped out for about three hours, at this own veterinary practice.

Today I had my first tennis lesson. I will take tennis lessons once a week for an hour a time. The tennis club is called: Tennis-Club Grün Weiß.

19-04-2016 swimming, action (13-04-2016)

Last Wednesday we went swimming again. There was a small improvement. We swam 32 laps, that is two more than the last time. We managed to take fewer breaks and swim and to swim a bit faster.

I baked a cake for a friend's birthday. I spent about the whole afternoon baking and decorating.

9-04-2016 running (action)

Today I went for the first time running. I used the app but the app didn't work very well. I ran for an hour and I think that I ran about 4-5 km. I haven't run in a long time so it was a bit hard to run and to get the motivation. My goals for the next time are that I take less pauses and run longer distances in one time.
In the picture you can see that I ran about an hour but the distance is not right and the amount of calories burnt is also not right. You can also see where I ran and that is about right. I will be looking for an other app to use.

I want to start running once a week. My goals is to run 5,5-6 km in hour. The days I run are Saturday or Sunday. I will be using the app Runtastic to record the running, and see how many kilometers I have run and in what amount of time.  

6-04-2016 ongoing activity (action) swimming

Today a friend and I went swimming. We want to go swimming from now on every week. We swam 30 laps and that is 1.5 kilometer. It took us about 1 hour to do this. Before we went swimming we made the goal to try do to 30 laps in 1 hour. We took several breaks in between so our goal for the next times will be that we take less breaks and try to swim continuously and increase the amount of laps in 1 hour. A reasonable amount of laps for the next few weeks will be about 35. This is the first time that we went swimming and we wanted to try it out first and set a little goals only for today to see how we will be doing. It was fine and we enjoyed it and we will continue swimming.

31-03-2016 CAS project (part 3)

Today we went to the retirement home for the last time. We were there at around 14:15 and we left at around 16:30. Today was the birthday coffee and we first helped setting up. After setting up we went checking on the people who were supposed to come. We never know how many people attend the event because you cannot force them or them might not be able to come due to their flexibility. Some might even be in the hospital. After we went checked on the people, which we do to ask if they need help for coming down and to remind them that there is an event. The event for today was for all the people that had birthday that month and they were allowed to bring one guest. The retirement home does this event every month. The people had cake and coffee and we talked to them. It was nice talking to them and to get to know them a little better. After the event was done we helped cleaning up and thanked the people for being able to do our CAS project at the retirement home.

Today I helped out at the animal shelter again. I drove this morning with the vet to Pirmasens, where the animal shelter is located. I helped out for about 4 hours. I am only able to help out when I have holidays because the vet only drives to the animal shelter on Tuesdays and Fridays and sometimes on Wednesdays.

Today I went hiking in the mountains. First I went up the mountain in a funicular, which was about 10 minutes. The highest point on the mountain was about 1064 meter. The mountain is located along the Bodensee.

Today I went to a flower island in the Bodensee. I am still on holiday and today we decided to see island. The island is not so big and the flowers are planted all over the island. There was a special exhibition about orchids. They had them in all different colours and shapes.

Today I went to a museum, called the Napoleon Museum. I am on a holiday with my family and we visited this museum today. It is a museum in Switzerland close to the village, Arenenberg. The museum was one of the houses were Napoleon has lived.

Today I went to help out by a vet. Last summer I did my work experience at his place. After I was finished he asked me if I would like it to still help out sometimes, so I do. What I mostly do is helping by holding the animals as he treats them, blood tests and helping with cleaning. The vet is located not far from the school and from my house.

22-03-2016 CAS project (part 2)

Today we went to the retirement home again. Our event of today was games morning. We played games with the elderly. We arrived at 10:00 am and helped setting up before the elderly came in. We played two different kind of games with them. Of course we introduced ourselves before we started playing games. During the games we talked to them and we got to know them better. At around 11:45 it ended and we helped cleaning up.

22-03-2016 CAS project (part 1) (08-03-2016)

We started our CAS project on the 8th of March. We are with 3 people and are all in the same class. We decided to do our CAS project together. We do our CAS project in a retirement home in Wachenheim, a city not that far from the place I live. We have chosen to do our project in Wachenheim because one of us lives there. We were at the retirement home at around 18:00. We helped setting up for the evenings event. The event was that we talked to the people and that they had a drink. It stared at about 18:15, the first people walked in. The group was not that big but we were with enough to have a fun evening. First we introduced ourselves and than we talked about al kind of topics. Some were lonely and events like this can help them to feel less lonely. There was a different age range and difference in how fit the people are. It ended about 19:45. We stayed a little bit longer to help cleaning.

22-03-2016 Drinks for a cause (04-03-2016)

The Friday in the 4th of March we had an event called drink for a cause. At this event we collect money with the whole school for our CAS projects. The people can walk around and look at the different projects and presentations will be held on stage. My projects were the Baan Phak Phing and presenting the CAS project. For the Baan Phak Phing project we had our own table were we presented the projects with a power point and pictures. People could come to our table to ask questions about the project and to donate money. In total we collected about 50 euros for our project. We had to present our CAS project on stage. We made a power point of about 10 slides explaining what our project contains and what our aim is. The presentation was about 5 minutes long. The event started at 18:30 to 22:00.

09-02-2016 CAS project

For our CAS project we go to a retirement home. A couple of days ago we went to the retirement home to explain and talk about what we want to do and why. We got permission to do our project at the retirement home and we got the dates when we want to come and visit the people.

The dates are:
*08-03-2016, we will be there at 18:15 and we will help serving coffee and talk to the elder people.
*22-03-2016, we will be there at 10:00 and we will play game with the people and talk to them.
*31-03-2016, we will be there at 14:30 and we will help with the birthday coffee, all the people who their birthday in that month will get something and there will be cake and coffee, we also want to bake a cake to bring with us.

26-01-2016 single event (service)

Today I went to the animal shelter in Pirmasens. It is located about 70-80 kilometres from Neustadt, my home town. I help out by a vet and he goes every Tuesday and Friday to the animal shelter. He does not get paid for helping out there because the animal shelter is poor. We help the animals who live in the animal shelter but there are also people from outside who are coming with their pets. So we have a pretty busy schedule when you have to treat the animals from inside and outside the animal shelter. In the animal shelter there a mostly dogs and cats and they have varies diseases. The healthy animals are for adoption. I have worked there today for about 4 hours. I go to the animal shelter in my holidays.

24-01-2016 Money for Baan Phak Phing

With our Dutch class we collected a total of 650 euros. The money will be donated to our project Baan Phak Phing.

22-01-2016 single experience

Creativity: going to a museum in Mannheim. In Mannheim they have some really good museums and exhibition.

Action: Frauenlauf in Mannheim. It is a 7k run for women. For the run you have to buy a shirt and the money will be donated. 

Service: Going to an animal shelter in Pirmasens. I help out by a vet and he helps out at the animal shelter for nothing.  They have money problems and they cam use all the help. I can go with him in holidays because he helps out on Tuesdays and Fridays.
